Matt Charles started playing bass guitar in his family band, Rockbox, at the ripe old age of six. Although Matt was the youngest member of the band, his family frequently stood back and watched him steal the show. With his sister, Melody, a piano player and singer, and his brother, Mitch, who plays drums and his dad on guitar, Matt's family quickly realized the youngster had special musical talent.
At a very young age, Matt admired and strived for the vocal style of the greatest rock singers of all-time, Led Zeppelin's Robert Plant and AC-DC's Bon Scott. His stage presence was powerful, spontaneous and infectious. If the song moved him he moved to the song.
Although maybe not a prodigy on his instrument, Matt's a true craftsman, practicing several rhythm hand fingering styles on his bass everyday, rare for an eleven year-old.
For three years he's taken bass lessons from Jimmy Davis, Madison, Indiana's own local blues guitar legend. The hard work has paid off; Matt can lay down a solid groove even when belting out the toughest lead vocals!
Even deeply immersed in his art, the young musician still finds time to be a kid. A sports nut, Matt's played soccer, football, basketball, and baseball. He excels in baseball, and as an ace pitcher who has helped his teams win three tournament championships over the years.
Matt is in his second year as an advanced student in the Lydia-Middleton Elementary ELOPE program, and loves history, Rock-n-Roll, and South American history in particular. In the fall he will be entering Madison Junior High School.
When TTWB approached Matt to audition, he checked out their web site, especially their original music. His whole family fell in love with their songs; we've been singing them ever since!
With the help of his father Matt learned four of their
originals in one weekend. After auditioning and meeting the guys, the feeling in the family was mutual, Matt should take the job if offered... the rest is history.
Matt appreciates the opportunity the band has given him and looks forward to doing his part to help the band go to the next level... rock on!
